AMPLIFYING WISCONSIN MUSICIANS WMPodcast interviews local Wisconsin musicians on their journey from their first group, solo endeavor, hired studio work, local community groups, and more, to their present day activities in the local music scene. We will also talk with music businesses and music organizations. We’ll talk about their origin story, what their influences are, what they do to hone their talents and their skills to be where they are today. What they feel is not only suffocating the local music scene, but, better yet, what they feel is helping push the local scene into the limelight. Also hear about gigs they’ve played that made an impression on them and why. . . and much more.

Americana music with Noah Lekas of American Restless.
This week I talk with Noah Lekas, who is originally from Racine, WI. He's coming back to Milwaukee for a hometown show with his group, American Restless and Silent Comedy. Milwaukee's own band Alley Eyes will be opening up the show at Shank Hall on May 12th. Tickets will be going sale soon on Shank Hall's website. Tickets on sale starting December 22nd. 3 great bands for $12.oo No Ticket Master fees, just a great price that goes to the bands directly.
Silent Comedy:
Brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman and their band The Silent Comedy know trouble. Facing that trouble head on permeates their work. Rough-hewn, expansive American rock & roll with dirt under its nails and whiskey on its breath, the music of The Silent Comedy channels the iron spine of the blues, Honky-Tonk sweat, and punk swagger into a euphoric declaration that when trouble rears its worrisome head it's time to crack knuckles, lock arms, and lift our voices high.
The brothers spent their formative years traveling the world with missionary parents before settling in California. In search of catharsis, the teens found solace in songwriting and stage lights. The young band proved capable of raucous shows and word spread. Years of touring followed, performing with Dave Matthews Band, Queens of the Stone Age, Mumford and Sons, Arctic Monkeys, and Vampire Weekend, and festival plays at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Under The Big Sky, Summer Meltdown and more.
Alley Eyes:
Alley Eyes is a Milwaukee based garage rock band, where last call love songs meet indifferent odes to modernity, where seedy guitar riffs meet haunting synth lines, where desert psychedelic rock meets John Carpenter themes...
Alley Eyes has played everywhere from the Uline Stage at Summerfest '22 to a sold out Back Room at Colectivo, & all throughout the Wisconsin. We're always looking to expand our presence!

Joey's Song raises the funds needed to support cutting-edge research and vital patient services in support of pediatric epilepsy and children with special needs.
HOW JOEY'S SONG RAISES FUNDS
Because of Joey's love for music, our foundation uses music as our primary fundraising vehicle. Each year, we host a benefit concert that features multi-platinum recording artist and 3-time Grammy winner Butch Vig and his band, The Know-It-All Boyfriends (aka KIAB), who serve as a house band to a steady stream of musical stars.
Our Joey's Song family of artists include: Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups); Charlie Berens (The Manitowoc Minute); Peter Buck and Mike Mills (R.E.M.); Neko Case; Rosanne Cash; Miguel Cervantes (Hamilton); Cory Chisel; Chris Collingwood (Fountains Of Wayne); Ralph Covert (The Bad Examples); Cowboy Junkies; Crash Test Dummies; Marshall Crenshaw; Justin Currie (Del Amitri); Tanya Donelly and Gail Greenwood (Belly); Butch Vig and Duke Erikson (Garbage); Steve Forbert; Robbie Fulks; Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!); Jon Dee Graham (True Believers); Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo); Joel Hodgson (Mystery Science Theater 3000); Kelly Hogan; Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow); Jewel; Freedy Johnston; Sam Llanas (BoDeans); Gary Louris and Mark Olson (The Jayhawks); Jesse Malin; Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers); Scott McCaughey (Minus 5); Michael Mcdermott; Rhett Miller (Old 97s); Montgomery Gentry; Dan Navarro (Lowen & Navarro); Miles Nielsen; Rick Nielsen and Daxx Nielsen (Cheap Trick); Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket); Dave Pirner (Soul Asylum); Linda Pitmon (Zuzu’s Petals); Brian Ray (Paul Mccartney); Matthew Ryan; Trapper Schoepp; Jody Stephens (Big Star); Ken Stringfellow (The Posies); Aaron Tippin; Zach Williams (The Lone Bellow); and Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate).
Since Joey's death in 2010, we have produced 5 charity compilation CDs featuring rare and previously unreleased music from nationally known, award-winning musicians.
Our CDs are all available as digital downloads. Radio stations from Australia to the UK to South America to Japan to Sweden and everywhere in between have played our songs. CDs have been downloaded in over 25 countries worldwide.
Joey's Song was started in 2010 following the death of four-year-old Joey Gomoll, who passed one week shy of his fifth birthday. Joey suffered from a rare and debilitating form of epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome.
Dravet's caused persistent seizures which were never able to be controlled through medications leading to severe learning disabilities. While Dravet's robbed Joey of the ability to speak, Joey remained a happy and fun-loving child. He was happiest when music was playing, allowing him to hum, drum, and sing in his own way. To be present when music was playing meant only one thing, that Joey would soon have you dancing and enjoying the music with him.

WMP EPISODE 90
"Now go make some music!" - Tyler Campbell
In 1956 Fender chose to begin making electric guitar bodies out of a new wood, Red Alder. Leo was a pragmatist and Alder was a sustainable, not overly heavy hardwood that was easy to finish, easy to glue, and perhaps most importantly, was local to Fender's operations. Today Alder remains one of the most popular choices for Fender guitar bodies - an economical and sustainable choice that still delivers high quality.
With that same pragmatism, Alder Audio is a startup microphone company out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and we are out to prove that it is possible to make a world class microphone in the U.S. at a small company and at a reasonable price if you are willing to break some convention and adopt a practical approach. We are a company bent on offering a fantastic and affordable product and we invest little in marketing and polish. Our innovative H44 ribbon mic comes out of an uncompromising attitude toward high quality audio combined with a streamlined approach to design. We've put this together in a package that we sell direct to the user in order to offer the best possible price.
From the Founder
When I started Alder I wanted to be able to offer microphones that were top tier quality, innovative, and completely made in the U.S. while keeping costs low enough to be accessible to working musicians and engineers. The reason I would ever hope to be able to meet such a difficult set of goals is my unique combination of experience. I am a former product development engineer and chemist with experience in multiple industries, I am a long-time home recording enthusiast, I hold an MBA, and I grew up working for the family business, a small U.S. manufacturing company that is still thriving today.
One of things my experiences have taught me is that if you can manage to offer a truly well designed product, support it well, and offer it at a fair price, the business pulls itself along naturally instead of needing to be constantly pushed forward by marketing. At the end of the day, my biggest goal for Alder is to offer users a mic that works very well for them at a price they can afford. So if you have questions, please, feel free to say hello. Send us a note over on the contact form. We'd be happy to help.
Thanks for stopping by. Now go make some music!

EPISODE 88: Michael Tierney of Reilly and Beatallica
Reilly: Winners of the folk rock/Celtic band of the year award by Wisconsin Area Music Industry for 2019 and 2015, Reilly have garnered a reputation for being an interactive, get-off-your-chair act. The band’s circuit continues to grow along with their reputation for being a highly respected professional group. National programs such as Good Morning Ireland, Blarney on the Air, and Paddyrock internet radio have featured Reilly. Celtic Radio Music Network rates them as five out of five stars. Their ability to adapt Celtic music to an American rock audience, and include unexpected rock favorites into their set, makes them the perfect eclectic choice in today’s watered down and predictable Celtic scene.
Beatallica:
Forged from the influences of two of history’s greatest bands, Beatallica are the world’s first live mash-up or “bash-up” band. Their wit, creativity, subversiveness, and flair are as sharp as the point they make.
Beatallica destroy the boundaries of creativity and reveal how original compositions of music can be crafted for those who identify with humor and biting commentary. All the while, they show appreciation and reverence to The Beatles and Metallica, grandfathers of their respective genres.
Beatallica continue to change the face of music on the internet, in live settings, and over radio waves around the globe. They flourish with music lovers from all areas of the world at their side.
Throw your fist high into the air, become a Beatallibanger, and open your mind to a one-of-a-kind brand of musical mayhem.

EPISODE 87 KIRSTIE KRAUS
Kirstie Kraus carries her thirst in her songwriting, in her live shows, and in her everyday connection with other kindred spirits. Nowhere is her appetite more quenched than on a stage in front of her fans, appropriately named “Thirsties”. Her confidence naturally shines under the bright lights, taking concert goers on a well-defined path of self-discovery and bliss. Her writing infuses her own transparent journey with others’ experiences to create sustainable lyrics and catchy melodies. The result is a perfect blend of country, funk, blues, and rock because with Kirstie, there are no boundaries. There’s only the process of “letting go” and letting the song tell you what it wants to be.
It will also tell you WHERE it wants to be and for an intuitive deep thinker like Kirstie, that place is Nashville. Three years ago, the Wisconsin native made the move to Music City and having heavily toured the summer before with her Midwest band, Thirsty Jones, Kirstie made the decision to really focus on honing her craft in town. She immediately began demoing out songs for her upcoming full length record and playing established Nashville venues, like the Listening Room Café and the Bluebird. She also leaned into the production side of her album, gaining great insight from her then producer about arrangements, vocal styling, and mixing. Her first Nashville based single, “Delusional” (2018) fancies a sassy 80s funk groove while 2019’s “Gotta Do” pulls in early 2000s Shania vibes. “Silver”, her July 2020 release, possesses the licks of Joan Jett and attitude of Avril Lavigne, proving that she’s not a one lane roadmap.
In fact, the roadmap has always been paved with perseverance and unwavering support of her close knit family back home. Her strong Catholic upbringing relayed the importance of a greater plan from early on. Growing up in an industrial, blue collar area instilled hard work, community involvement, and social interaction. The popular powerhouse vocals of Mariah, Celine, Gloria Estefan, and Amy Grant nudged the precocious six year old to declare that she too wanted to be a singer, in the form of a homework drawing. Her mother then enrolled her ambitious daughter into every opportunity and outlet she could find. By 12, she was writing songs and by the age of 15, she had picked up a guitar and joined NSAI, which meant frequent trips to Nashville for the next several years to be mentored by the best in the business. Kirstie did what most successful artists of longevity will tell you to do: she built her fan base and relationships back home AND in Nashville before making the big leap.
